BV Doshi's Pritzker-Winning Vision Shapes IIM Bangalore Campus
A famous architect named B.V. Doshi designed a big school in India called IIM Bangalore.
Doshi won a very important prize for architects called the Pritzker Prize.
The school's buildings were finished in 1983.
He got ideas from old Indian places like the city of Fatehpur Sikri and the Meenakshi Temple.
These places have beautiful courtyards and walkways that let in lots of light.
He wanted the campus to feel like a small village where people could walk around and chat.
The classrooms have doors that open into green courtyards, so nature is always close by.
Doshi even made sure the buildings were not taller than the trees.
Skilled local stone workers from places like Hampi helped build the walls.
The IIM Bangalore campus, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Balkrishna Vithaldas Doshi, was completed in 1983.
The 54,000 square metres complex, built on a 100-acre campus, is based on Fatehpur Sikri, the town Akbar laid out in the 16th century.
Doshi drew inspiration from the Meenakshi Temple in Madurai, as well as Lalbagh gardens and Cubbon Park.
The campus features green corridors and courtyards, with classrooms whose doors open into the courtyards.
Stone masonry was done by local artisans from Hampi, other parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
