Supreme Court Questions Jharkhand DGP Appointment Rules
The Supreme Court is checking whether Jharkhand followed the rules for choosing its police chief.
The Central government says some of the state’s rules do not match earlier directions from the court.
The judges said one rule may be legally incorrect, but they have not made a final decision.
If the rule is cancelled, Tadasha Mishra’s appointment as DGP might also be affected.
The court has therefore given her a chance to explain her side.
Jharkhand’s government can also respond or reconsider the rule.
The court plans to hear the matter again in a week.
The Supreme Court said a Jharkhand DGP appointment provision appeared inconsistent with its Prakash Singh ruling.
The Central government is challenging Jharkhand’s 2025 DGP selection and appointment regulations.
The court issued notice to DGP Tadasha Mishra because her appointment could be affected if the rules are struck down.
Mishra was appointed on December 30, 2025, after the state removed a six-month residual-service requirement.
The Jharkhand government may reconsider the regulation, and the case is due back in one week.
