India Plans Private Production of Missiles Up to 1,500km
India wants more private companies to help make missiles.
The government may share technology from the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
Some of the missiles could travel as far as 1,500 kilometers.
The missiles being considered include the LRLACRM and Pralay systems.
Companies may also produce Astra air-to-air missiles.
Several Indian defence businesses are expected to take part.
The government says this could make India’s defence industry stronger.
It could also reduce India’s need to buy some weapons from other countries.
The Indian government is identifying private companies to produce conventional missiles with ranges of up to 1,500 km.
The move follows Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s decision to open conventional missile manufacturing to Indian private firms through DRDO technology transfers.
Potential systems include the 1,000–1,500 km LRLACRM and the 150–500 km Pralay quasi-ballistic missile.
Private firms have also been invited to produce Astra Mark-I and Mark-II air-to-air missiles.
The policy aims to expand domestic production, reduce import dependence and support the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
