RBI Explains How to Reclaim Money from Inactive Accounts
If you have money in a bank account that you haven't used for a very long time, like more than 10 years, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) wants you to know you can still get that money back.
The RBI has a special website called UDGAM where you can check if you have any money waiting for you.
You just need to enter some basic information like your name and phone number.
If you find money that belongs to you, you can go to your bank with some important documents like your Aadhaar card to prove it's really you.
The bank will then give you your money back, including any extra money it might have earned over time.
The RBI is also asking banks to help people get their money back during special events from October to December 2025.
So, if you think you might have some old money in a bank account, you should check the UDGAM website to see if it's there!
Bank accounts inactive for 10+ years are classified as 'unclaimed' and transferred to RBI's DEA Fund.
The UDGAM portal allows users to search for unclaimed funds using basic information like name and PAN.
Claimants must visit their bank branch with valid KYC documents to recover the funds.
Banks will hold special drives from October to December 2025 to assist customers in reclaiming deposits.
The RBI urges citizens to stay financially aware and regularly monitor their bank accounts.
