China Southern Airlines plans to restart flights between Guangzhou and New Delhi on September 21.

The route has not operated for six years.

The airline says it will offer more than 100 weekly flights on eight round-trip routes in South Asia.

Other airlines have also restarted or introduced direct flights between China and India.

These flights had been stopped during the COVID-19 pandemic and after tensions between the two countries.

Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting India for the BRICS summit.

He is expected to meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The visit and the flight resumptions are happening as direct travel links between the countries increase.
