NSE Lists After Decade, Marking Landmark Moment for Dalal Street
The National Stock Exchange, or NSE, is a company that helps people buy and sell investments in India.
For many years, NSE itself was not publicly traded.
On Thursday, its shares began trading on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
They opened at Rs 1,800, slightly higher than the IPO price.
The IPO raised about Rs 22,569 crore and became India’s second-largest public offering.
Investors wanted more than five times the number of shares available.
NSE handles most of India’s cash trading and almost all equity-futures trading.
Its listing means the exchange that runs a major part of the market can now itself be bought and sold by investors.
National Stock Exchange shares opened at Rs 1,800 on the BSE, 0.84% above the Rs 1,785 IPO price.
The Rs 22,568.94-crore offering was India’s second-largest IPO, behind Hyundai Motor India’s 2024 issue.
The IPO was subscribed 5.71 times, with bids for 505.81 million shares against 88.64 million available.
NSE accounted for 92.99% of India’s cash-market turnover and 99.79% of equity-futures turnover in FY26.
The listing valued NSE at about Rs 4.45 lakh crore, making it India’s largest listed exchange by market value.
