Chhattisgarh Anti-Conversion Law Comes Into Force, Says Deputy CM

In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, a new law has started working.

It is called the Chhattisgarh Freedom of Religion Act 2026.

The law is meant to stop illegal religious conversions.

That means it stops people from being pressured or tricked into changing their religion.

The state's deputy chief minister, Vijay Kumar Sharma, said the law is now in force.

The law was officially announced in a government publication on August 4.

Special courts will be set up to hear cases about illegal conversions.

These courts must finish each case within six months.

The law also explains how complaints and investigations will work.

The state government says it will enforce the new law very strictly.
