Madurantakam By-Poll Draws 27 Candidates After Withdrawal Deadline
The Madurantakam Assembly seat will have a by-election.
At first, 48 people submitted nomination papers.
Officials rejected 20 papers during checking.
This left 28 valid candidates.
One Independent candidate then withdrew.
As a result, 27 candidates will compete.
Ten candidates are supported by political parties, and 17 are Independents.
Campaigning ends on October 4, voting takes place on October 6, and votes are counted on October 9.
Twenty-seven candidates remain in the fray for the Madurantakam (SC) Assembly by-poll.
Forty-eight nominations were filed, with 20 rejected during scrutiny and one candidate later withdrawing.
Ten candidates represent recognised or unrecognised political parties, while 17 are Independents.
The five recognised-party candidates include nominees from Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, DMK, AIADMK, CPI-M and Naam Tamilar Katchi.
Campaigning will continue until the evening of October 4; polling is scheduled for October 6 and counting for October 9.
