Mumbai Principal Loses ₹17 Lakh in Fake Voter Roll Fraud

A retired college principal in Mumbai received a phone call from people pretending to be election officers.

They told him there was a mistake in the voter list — his father's name was written incorrectly.

They warned him he needed to fix it quickly or he might not be able to vote.

They asked him to download a special app to fill out an official form.

But the app was a trick.

Once he downloaded it, the bad people could see and control his phone.

Using that access, they took ₹17 lakh from his bank account.

Police believe he is the first victim of this kind of scam.

This story shows that people who sound official may still be fraudsters, and urgent requests to download apps can be dangerous.
