Adivasis Celebrate Navvong Puja With First Harvest Offerings
Adivasi families from the Mesram clan celebrated a festival called Navvong puja.
They held it at Indravelli in Adilabad district on Friday.
The festival happens when the community harvests its first crops.
This year, the crops included samalu and pesarlu pulses.
Families cooked the pulses with rice.
They offered the food to their gods, goddesses and ancestors.
They also honoured nature, including hills, birds and animals.
After the ceremony, community members ate together and made sure no food was wasted.
Mesram-clan Adivasi communities held Navvong puja at Indravelli in Adilabad district on Friday.
The ceremony coincided with harvesting their first samalu and pesarlu pulse crops.
Families cooked the harvested pulses with rice and offered the food to traditional gods and goddesses.
Community members later shared lunch, while offerings were also made to ancestors, hills, birds and animals.
The Mesram community says the tradition has been passed down through generations, with no prepared food wasted.
