Rao Appears in Court Over Formula E Race Corruption Allegations
K T Rama Rao, a top leader of the BRS party, went to court in Hyderabad on July 31, 2024.
He is accused of helping move a lot of money—about 55 crore rupees—to the organizers of a big car race called Formula E. The money was paid in foreign currency and the officials say it was done without following the rules.

BRS Working President K T Rama Rao appeared before a Hyderabad court on July 31, 2024, after a chargesheet was filed in March.
The case alleges irregular payments of about Rs 55 crore in foreign currency for the 2024 Formula E race, violating procedures during the previous BRS government.
Rao, senior IAS officer Arvind Kumar, and former HMD Authority chief engineer B L N Reddy are accused of criminal misappropriation, breach of trust, and conspiracy under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC.
Rao denied corruption, claiming the funds were transferred to promote Hyderabad’s image and that the money remains with the race organisers.
The trial has not yet begun; the court adjourned the matter to August 25, 2024.
