Court Issues Non-Bailable Warrant Against Former MLA in Cheque Case
A long time ago, in 2014, a man named Rohith Reddy was in charge of money that belonged to a company called Intellidex Private Limited.
The court says he used that money for himself instead of for the company.
Because of this, the company lost money.
Later, he gave the company a cheque, which is a paper telling a bank to pay money, for more than 34 lakh rupees.
The cheque was meant to pay back what was lost.
But when the company tried to get the money, the bank said there was not enough money in his account.
This happened three times.
Giving a cheque that bounces is against the law in India, under something called the Negotiable Instruments Act.
A judge in Hyderabad found him guilty of this.
Because he did not come to court for the verdict, the judge also issued a non-bailable warrant, which means the police can arrest him and bring him to court.
Next, the court will decide his punishment.
Hyderabad's Metropolitan Magistrate's Court Complex found former BRS MLA P. 'Pilot' Rohith Reddy guilty in a Rs 34.23 lakh cheque-bouncing case.
Rohith Reddy allegedly used funds of Intellidex Private Limited for personal gain in 2014, causing loss to the company.
Under a later memorandum of understanding, he gave the company a cheque for Rs 34,23,000, which bounced three times due to insufficient funds.
A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against Rohith Reddy because he did not appear in court during the verdict.
Police are expected to arrest the former MLA and produce him in court, after which the court will pronounce the sentence.
