Nepal Floods Leave 794 Bodies Recovered, Thousands Missing
Severe flash floods hit parts of Nepal and caused widespread destruction.
In Trishuli, more than 1,600 students were taken to safety before their school was washed away.
A local resident said the school, market and a nearby temple were buried or destroyed.
Officials said 794 bodies had been recovered by Sunday evening.
They also said 2,502 people were still missing.
Some missing people were workers, foreign nationals and Nepali travelers.
Rescue teams from Nepal and India searched flooded hydropower tunnels.
Thousands of people have already been rescued by ground teams and helicopters.
A teacher and other staff evacuated more than 1,600 students before floodwaters swept away their Trishuli school.
The floods destroyed buildings, markets and a Ram temple, with local residents reporting many deaths in the area.
Nepal Police said 794 bodies had been recovered by Sunday at 5:45 PM, while 2,502 people remained missing.
Indian and Nepali rescue teams searched hydropower tunnels in the Chilime and Langtang areas.
Nearly 20,000 security personnel have rescued 8,730 people by ground and air operations, including 3,081 helicopter evacuees.
