ECI recognises TVK as state party, reserves ‘whistle’ symbol · thehansindia.com

The Election Commission has officially recognised Vijay’s party, TVK, as a state party.

This applies in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

TVK won 108 out of 234 seats in its first Assembly election.

It also received 34.92% of the valid votes in Tamil Nadu.

Because of this result, the party met the rules for state-party recognition.

The whistle, which was earlier given to TVK as a common symbol, is now reserved for the party.

This means TVK candidates can use the same symbol in future elections.

The decision is an important step for Vijay and his political organisation.
