Tamil Nadu Ruling Bloc Formalizes Secular Social Justice Alliance
Five political parties governing Tamil Nadu have chosen a formal name for their alliance.
The name is Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance, or SSJVA.
The group is led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML are also members.
The parties say their shared ideas include secularism and social justice.
They had worked together without an official name since May 10.
A formal structure may help them solve disagreements and plan together.
The alliance may face rival groups in upcoming elections.
The five-party ruling alliance in Tamil Nadu has adopted the name Secular Social Justice Victory Alliance, or SSJVA.
The alliance is led by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and includes Congress, VCK, MDMK and IUML.
Its name emphasizes secularism, social justice, welfare and the progress of Tamil Nadu.
The alliance had operated informally since the government led by C. Joseph Vijay took office on May 10.
SSJVA is expected to compete with the DMK-led SPA and the BJP-led NDA in future elections.
