Ramanathapuram Imposes Two-Month Order Ahead of Commemorations

Ramanathapuram officials have introduced special rules for upcoming commemorations and religious or memorial events.

The rules are meant to help keep people safe and prevent clashes or other law-and-order problems.

Large numbers of volunteers are expected to travel to the events.

Some types of vehicles carrying volunteers will not be allowed into the district on certain dates.

Groups of five or more people cannot gather without permission for two months beginning September 5, 2026.

Torches cannot normally be carried during the events.

They may be allowed within one kilometre of an event venue if officials give permission.

The administration said past incidents and 1,209 recorded violations influenced the decision.
