Telkom University expels two students over alleged bullying of first-year student

Telkom University in Indonesia has expelled two students for bullying a new student in a dormitory room.

A widely shared video appeared to show one student directing gas from a spray can at the new student while holding a lighter.

The university said it imposed the expulsions after an investigation.

It said the students involved had not known each other before joining the university, and denied that revenge was the motive.

The university said it has provided protection for the victim and placed the students in separate dormitory areas with supervision.

The rector apologized to the victim and family and said violence and bullying have no place on campus.

The university says it is committed to making the campus safe, but it did not say what further steps would follow.
