ECB considers broad digital euro use from launch

The European Central Bank is weighing whether people could use a digital euro online, in some shops and to pay each other from the start.

Some in-person payments could also work offline.

The bank says early, broad use could help Europe rely less on US-based payment systems.

The rollout details are not final, and the plan depends on EU lawmakers approving legislation.
