Trump names Katie Zakaria as White House press secretary

U.S. President Donald Trump has named Katie Zakaria as the White House press secretary.

She replaces Caroline Levitt, who left the job at the end of August to spend more time with her family.

The press secretary speaks for the president and administration, answers reporters’ questions and explains policy decisions.

Zakaria has appeared on conservative outlets including Fox News and Newsmax, where she defended Trump and his policies.

She has also worked in public affairs at the Department of Homeland Security and as a communications adviser at Trump Media and Technology Group.

Trump said he was confident in her ability and praised her support for his campaigns.

In the new role, she will face questions about the administration’s policies amid political divisions and tensions between Trump and parts of the media.
