HBO is developing an eight-episode Crazy Rich Asians series

HBO is developing an eight-episode series called Crazy Rich Asians, based on Kevin Kwan’s bestselling books.

It follows the 2018 film, which grossed more than $239 million worldwide.

The series is described as a drama, unlike the film, which was a romantic comedy.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote the film, will be the showrunner and an executive producer.

Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Ronny Chieng are set to reprise their roles, while Michelle Yeoh will appear in a recurring role.

It is not confirmed whether Awkwafina, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu or Ken Jeong will return.

The story may draw on the second book, China Rich Girlfriend, but the details are not confirmed.

Production is set to begin in 2027.
