Ukrainian strikes on three Yandex data centers disrupt services across Russia

Ukraine has struck three data centers owned by Yandex, a major Russian technology company, in the Ryazan, Kaluga and Vladimir regions.

The attacks began overnight on October 7-8, and operations at the Sasovo and Vladimir sites have been halted; parts of the Kaluga facility were also knocked out.

Yandex provides services including email, maps, taxi and food delivery, digital payments and cloud computing for businesses.

Damage to its facilities has disrupted some of these services and also affected other companies that rely on Yandex’s infrastructure.

Yandex says users’ money is safe, but it has not given a timetable for restoring all services.

The company says it has restored access to some popular tools and is moving customer data and services to other cloud providers.

Ukraine says the strikes were retaliation for Russian attacks on data centers in Ukraine.

Russian officials say they are discussing ways to improve protection for Yandex’s facilities.
