Hydro-Québec seeks higher electricity rates for large data centres

Hydro-Québec wants large data centres to pay more for electricity.

Its proposed rate would average 13 cents per kilowatt-hour, about twice what these customers pay now.

The utility says data-centre demand could more than double from 2024 to 2030, largely because of growing use of AI.

The regulator is hearing arguments before deciding on the proposal.
