Banco Master cases await action at Brazil’s Supreme Court as tensions rise

Cases linked to the former Banco Master bank have been stalled at Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court since September 12.

Court president Edson Fachin took the cases into his office, and requests from Daniel Vorcaro and four other jailed suspects to challenge their preventive detention remain pending.

The delay comes amid a dispute over how to handle investigations involving justices Alexandre de Moraes and André Mendonça.

A hearing on whether those matters should be considered together was paused after Justice Flávio Dino requested more time to review it.

The pause has also left the handling of the cases uncertain and added to tensions among the justices.

The Federal Police are expected to deliver Fachin a report mentioning members of the court, possibly on Tuesday, October 13.

Fachin has said he will decide the next steps after receiving information that fully presents the facts.
