Royal Mail customers can opt out of Safeplace parcel deliveries

Royal Mail customers in the UK can choose whether parcels are left in a Safeplace when they are not at home.

The option is available at no extra charge for Tracked 24 and 48 and Royal Mail 24 and 48 deliveries.

A Safeplace is a secure, weatherproof area of a property that is out of sight and easy to reach.

Royal Mail says it will not use places such as recycling bins or doorsteps, or leave items that need a signature or age or identity checks.

Customers can opt out through the Royal Mail app, so their postie can use other delivery options if they are out.

People who cannot use the app can contact Royal Mail for help, including with accessibility needs.

The choice may help customers who want to keep Christmas gifts hidden or do not want parcels left outside.
