Monterrey book fair opens with focus on knowledge and critical thought
The 34th Monterrey International Book Fair has opened in Monterrey, Mexico, at the Cintermex venue.
The nine-day event is expected to bring together more than 700 authors from around the world.
El Colegio Nacional, a Mexican institution of learning, is the fair’s guest of honor.
At the opening, Argentine writer Alberto Manguel said books and deep reading matter at a time when dialogue and careful understanding are under threat.
He and other speakers also raised concerns about digital distractions and the pressure to limit ideas.
The fair is organized by the Tecnológico de Monterrey and includes book stands, presentations and talks.
It will continue for nine days.
