Trump criticizes Nobel committee during New York campaign rally

President Donald Trump spoke at a rally in Syracuse, New York, on Friday to support Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman.

The rally took place on the day the Nobel Peace Prize was announced for South African jurist Navi Pillay, a former United Nations human rights chief.

The committee recognized Pillay for her work on justice and accountability for war crimes and genocide.

Trump said he should have won the prize and attacked the committee’s decision.

He also repeated his claim that he had ended eight wars, though his role in resolving some conflicts is disputed, while the war with Iran remains unsettled.

The rally was part of Republican efforts to hold congressional majorities in the November 3 midterm elections, and Trump also sought to persuade voters that the economy was doing well.

The event was intended to promote Blakeman, but Trump spent much of it criticizing the Nobel decision and other political opponents.
