Jordan’s stock market chief says rally reflects economic strength
Jordan’s stock market has risen sharply, with its main index gaining 38.2 percent in the 12 months to September.
Emad Abu Haltam, who leads the Jordan Securities Commission, says the rise reflects investment by local and foreign institutions and individuals, not short-term speculation.
He points to record company profits, growing exports, remittances and tourism income as signs of strength in the wider economy.
Foreign investors sold about $12.8 million more than they bought in June, but Abu Haltam says this was a normal market movement.
He also says Jordan’s market remains resilient amid regional tensions and offers attractive valuations and dividends.
The government and regulator are working on incentives to bring more private, family-owned and state-owned companies to the exchange, with new listings expected from 2026 to 2029.
They also want the market to help fund major energy, railway and mining projects through bonds and other financing.
Jordan’s stock market gained 38.2 percent in the 12 months to September, and its regulator’s chairman said the rally reflects economic fundamentals rather than speculative inflows.
The Amman Stock Exchange ranked first among Arab bourses by index performance in 2025.
Market capitalization reached a record range of $45 billion to $47 billion, according to Jordan Securities Commission chairman Emad Abu Haltam.
Abu Haltam linked the market’s performance to strong company profits and growth in exports, remittances and tourism income.
He said foreign investors’ net sales of around $12.8 million in June were not significant and described them as a normal market correction.
