Shanghai robot debuts with a rated payload above five tons

Shanghai Chaifu Robotics unveiled a heavy-duty robot at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai.

The CR5000-3700 has a company-rated payload of 5,000.36 kilograms, which the company says exceeds the previous 2,300-kilogram record held by FANUC.

A demonstration showed it lifting an entire vehicle, but a live lift does not prove reliable factory performance.

The robot is designed for sectors including nuclear power, rail transit, large equipment manufacturing and new energy.

Heavy-duty robots could take on handling and positioning tasks that are difficult or hazardous for workers, but they also need strong structures, precise controls and effective safety systems.

Chaifu says the robot is built for continuous production-line work and uses components it develops itself, including reducers, motors and controllers.

Long-term stability, accuracy, productivity and costs still need testing in real applications.
