Braves weigh free-agent plans and rotation needs after NLDS exit

The Atlanta Braves’ season ended when the Los Angeles Dodgers eliminated them from the National League Division Series in four games.

Afterward, Braves baseball operations president Alex Anthopoulos discussed the team’s plans for the offseason.

Atlanta will speak with all its free agents before the market opens five days after the World Series.

Anthopoulos praised utility player Mauricio Dubon, who could return as the team looks to fill a need at shortstop.

The Braves may also try to re-sign pitcher Tyler Mahle, who posted strong results after joining Atlanta at the trade deadline.

Starting pitchers Spencer Strider and Spencer Schwellenbach have dealt with injuries, and Anthopoulos said neither is guaranteed a rotation spot.

The team will need to find enough pitching for next season, though the sources do not say what moves it will make.
