Madonna and Stuart Price say ‘Confessions II’ explores new ground
Madonna reunited with producer Stuart Price to make “Confessions II,” a follow-up to her 2005 dance album “Confessions on a Dance Floor.”
Price said the goal was not to recreate the earlier record but to explore new ideas with the same creative energy.
He described the new album as using dance music to address confrontation, acceptance and reclaiming oneself.
Producer and songwriter Andrew Watt helped make the track “Danceteria,” inspired by Madonna’s early years as an artist in New York.
The song draws on her memories of the Manhattan club Danceteria and her beginnings in the city.
Other credited guest artists include Sabrina Carpenter, Feid, Martin Garrix, Stromae and Madonna’s daughter, Lola Leon.
“Confessions II” topped the Billboard 200 and received some of Madonna’s strongest reviews in years.
Madonna and producer Stuart Price say Confessions II explores new territory rather than trying to recreate her 2005 album.
Price says the new record treats dance as confrontation, acceptance and reclamation of self.
Madonna decided to make the sequel after reuniting with Price for her 2023–2024 Celebration Tour.
Andrew Watt says Madonna drew on memories of New York’s Danceteria club and wrote down her origin story during the sessions.

What people are saying
It wasn’t about going backwards. It was about discovering new territory
The first Confessions was very much about the freedom and release of the dance floor, but this record is much more about dance as a confrontation, and as acceptance and reclamation of self.
No one has a cooler story than Madonna
They’re connecting with something new, in the present. And that’s really the whole point of this record.
