Delhi High Court seeks reasons for curbs on PepsiCo drink labels
A Delhi High Court division bench has asked a single judge to explain an interim order restricting PepsiCo India from using the words “energy drink” on new batches of Adrenaline Rush and Sting Energy.
The restriction followed an order by India’s food safety authority, FSSAI, telling makers of high-caffeine drinks to stop using that label because it could mislead consumers.
PepsiCo challenged the restriction in the High Court.
It argued that its case should be treated like Red Bull India’s, in which the same single judge quashed the FSSAI order.
The division bench asked the single judge to provide detailed reasons within a week.
Those reasons will help the bench consider PepsiCo’s appeal.
