Trump says Russia will supply diesel to US and global markets
US President Donald Trump said Russia had agreed to supply diesel to US and global markets after a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump said more than 300,000 tonnes would be sent immediately.
He also announced 500,000 tonnes during November, followed by 1 million tonnes and, later, up to 3 million tonnes depending on refinery capacity.
Trump linked the plan to the war in Iran and said it would bring down diesel prices.
He said lower fuel costs were especially important for farmers, ranchers and truckers.
The announcement comes as US midterm elections are due on November 3, with polls cited in the Spanish-language coverage showing Democrats ahead by about seven points.
The reports do not say when the later shipments will arrive or confirm that the deliveries have begun.
