ICE agent shoots man in car with child in New York

An ICE agent shot and injured a man in Marble Hill, in the Bronx borough of New York City, on October 8.

A five-year-old child was in the man’s car but was not physically hurt.

The Department of Homeland Security said agents were trying to arrest a 28-year-old Dominican national with a criminal conviction.

New York’s police commissioner said the man began moving his car and that an officer fired seven shots; senior federal officials said he drove into ICE vehicles and toward officers.

The differing accounts have added to tension over the shooting and the role of ICE, the federal agency enforcing immigration laws.

Mayor Zohran Mamdani said he would ask President Donald Trump to end ICE operations in the city, while Governor Kathy Hochul called for a full account of what happened.

Hochul also asked for body-camera footage to be released, and the federal department said the incident was under investigation.
