Kaif says India need team-wide contributions to win 2027 ODI World Cup

Mohammad Kaif says India will need contributions from the whole team to win the 2027 ODI World Cup.

The tournament is scheduled for October and November 2027 and will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Kaif said Virat Kohli remains India’s main batter, but one player cannot win a World Cup abroad alone.

He pointed to India’s 2003 campaign, when Sachin Tendulkar led the scoring but teammates and bowlers also played important roles.

India has several other experienced and younger batting options, including Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer.

The article says India’s bowling lacks depth, particularly among fast bowlers, with Jasprit Bumrah the only certain starter.

Kaif expects Kohli and Rohit to do well in South Africa, but says their teammates must support them if India are to win.

Tendulkar was our main batter, but if you check the matches, others also contributed. Yuvraj (Singh) got important runs, I got an unbeaten half-century against New Zealand, Rahul Dravid’s runs were there, Virender Sehwag’s runs, Ashish Nehra’s match-winning spell against England, Zaheer Khan bowled good spells, Javagal Srinath was our senior bowler. Ganguly’s captaincy was excellent, a lot of credit goes to him
