South Korea’s short-term bond funding rose 20.4% year on year in Q3

South Korea raised 349.3 trillion won through short-term bonds in the third quarter, according to the Korea Securities Depository.

That was 20.4% more than a year earlier, but 42.4% less than in the second quarter.

Short-term bonds are debt that companies issue under set conditions, including a maturity of no more than one year.

Nearly all the bonds—99.9%—were due within 92 days, so longer-term issues made up only a small share.

Securities firms issued the largest amount, at 130.5 trillion won, followed by companies that issue asset-backed securities.

Bonds rated A1 or higher accounted for 93.5% of the total, showing that most issuance was in the highest rating category reported.
