Arizona House candidate says she came forward after reporting an alleged rape
Bernadette Greene-Placentia, a Democrat running for the U.S. House in Arizona's 8th District, says two men raped her while she was repairing campaign supplies in August.
A Maricopa County Sheriff's Office report says the incident happened between 2 a.m.
and 3 a.m.
on Aug.
14, and that she reported it on Aug.
31.
The sheriff's office says it is investigating.
Greene-Placentia says she initially did not want to discuss what happened, but decided to speak publicly while campaigning about fighting for people.
She says hundreds of women have since contacted her to share their experiences, and about 70% told her they had never reported what happened to them.
She is challenging Republican Rep.
Abe Hamadeh in a district rated solidly Republican.

I would say about 70% of them have acknowledged that they never reported it, and they are thanking me for being in the public eye and talking about it and giving voice because they didn't feel like they had a voice when they went through the same thing.
