Florence Pugh to Lead Film Adaptation of The Midnight Library

Florence Pugh will star as Nora Seed in a film adaptation of Matt Haig’s novel The Midnight Library.

The story follows Nora, who feels her life has gone wrong after losing her job and relationships.

After attempting suicide, she wakes in a library between life and death, where each book leads to a different version of her life.

Nora explores the lives she might have had by making different choices, but those alternatives also bring problems and disappointments.

The novel focuses on regret and Nora’s search for a reason to keep living, rather than on the idea of a multiverse.

Garth Davis will direct the film, reuniting with Pugh after working with her on Netflix’s East of Eden adaptation.

The screenplay is being written by Laura Wade and Nick Payne, and Pugh will also produce.

Pre-production is expected to begin in fall 2026.
