Italy weighs extending gradual energy protections through 2027
Italy’s energy ministry is considering extending current electricity supply terms for households and businesses until December 31, 2027.
The terms are part of the gradual-protection service, which is due to end on March 31, 2027.
The ministry says it is considering an extension because energy prices remain unstable internationally.
Under one proposal, from April 1 to December 31, non-vulnerable households that have not chosen a free-market offer could stay with their current supplier under the existing terms.
If that supplier offers them a better deal, the better terms could apply instead.
The idea is to give households more time to compare offers and choose a supplier.
The extension is still under consideration, and the ministry has not said whether it will go ahead.
