PNV leader says party will defend Basque interests in November election

At a campaign event in Bilbao, PNV leader Aitor Esteban said his party would speak for Euskadi in the November 29 election.

He said voters would decide issues affecting the Basque Country over the next four years, not just choose a prime minister.

The PNV is concerned that political debate is becoming divided into opposing blocs around Pedro Sánchez.

Esteban said the party would not back a government deal that includes Vox, and would not automatically support the Socialists either.

The PNV says it will negotiate freely to defend Basque interests, including stronger self-government and action on housing, industry, security and migration.

Esteban also accused EH Bildu of following Sánchez’s political line rather than setting its own agenda for Euskadi.

The election is set for November 29, and the PNV says it will decide its position based on the issues and negotiations.
