Buying a German pension point will cost 2.9% more in 2027

In Germany, voluntary payments can add points to a state pension account, which can increase the monthly pension later.

Buying points is generally an option for people aged 50 or older who want to reduce or cover deductions for taking their pension early, and they must have a realistic chance of reaching 35 contribution years.

One pension point costs €9,662 in 2026, based on the average earnings figure used to calculate the price.

That figure is set to rise in 2027, making a point cost €9,942, or €280 more.

Under current pension rates, one point adds €42.52 to a person’s monthly pension, though the value usually changes each year.

The German Pension Insurance advises applying soon to make a voluntary payment under the 2026 rules, using form V0210.

Contributions may also qualify for tax deductions, but whether buying points pays off depends in part on how long someone receives a pension.
