Mexico law allows digital ID for remote financial account opening

Mexico law allows digital ID for remote financial account opening

Mexico’s Digital Economy Law has been approved by both houses of Congress and sent to the president.

It allows financial firms to accept a digital CURP as a trust mechanism when people sign up for financial services remotely.

The CURP is Mexico’s personal identification code.

Users may also ask financial firms to consult and transfer documents from their Citizen Digital File for these contracts.

The file is voluntary, accessed through the Llave MX platform, and its digital documents have the same legal effect as physical ones.

The law aims to expand digital payments and remote financial services across Mexico, potentially making it easier to access savings, credit and insurance.

It is now awaiting publication in Mexico’s Official Gazette, as the law’s provisions require.
