Large metal object found in Central Kalimantan palm-oil plantation
Workers found a large metal object in a palm-oil plantation in East Kotawaringin, Central Kalimantan, on Monday morning.
The object was about six metres long and had cables attached, but its origin is unknown.
Residents had heard a loud bang the previous afternoon, though there is no proof the sound and the object are connected.
Some people have suggested it could be space debris or part of a rocket or satellite, but no official identification has been confirmed.
The find drew attention because debris from objects re-entering Earth’s atmosphere can reach the ground, although the European Space Agency says the risk of injury is very low.
