Spain to auction three- and nine-month Treasury bills on Tuesday

Spain’s Treasury will auction three- and nine-month bills on Tuesday as it raises money by selling short-term government debt.

Treasury bills are loans to the government that investors buy and receive a return on.

At the previous auction of these maturities, on October 13, three-month bills yielded 2.645% and nine-month bills 2.968%.

Yields on Spanish government debt have since fallen broadly, with the 10-year bond near 3.8%, after it rose above 4.1% several weeks earlier.

The article links the recent decline to lower energy prices and reduced inflation pressures, while also noting uncertainty around the AI sector and recent US midterm election results.

The Tuesday auction will show the returns investors demand now for lending to Spain over three and nine months.
