Passenger rescued after nearly 20 hours in Ionian Sea near Greece

A 44-year-old passenger went overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship near the Greek island of Zakynthos on Oct.

The ship was the Odyssey of the Seas, sailing in the Ionian Sea.

The woman, a Salvadoran national, reportedly told rescuers she jumped because she wanted to disembark.

Greek authorities launched a search involving coast guard vessels, a helicopter and ships in the area.

A cargo ship found her on Oct.

She was conscious, pulled aboard and taken by ambulance to hospital for medical checks.

The Katakolo Port Authority is conducting a preliminary investigation into the incident.
