FIA partners with AWS on AI, cloud computing and digital services
The FIA has partnered with Amazon Web Services to expand its digital capabilities in motor sport.
The governing body plans to use AWS AI tools to help develop future technical regulations.
AWS computing technology already supports the FIA’s aerodynamic simulations, which test airflow virtually and can save time and costs compared with building physical parts.
The partnership will also expand a digital licensing platform that simplifies administration for officials and national authorities.
First tested in Canada and Sri Lanka, the platform is set to reach more countries.
The changes form part of the FIA’s wider digital transformation, while AWS also provides technology services to Formula 1 management.

What people are saying
Technology is changing every part of our sport, and the FIA must lead that change. Our new partnership with AWS will support everything from the cars of the future to the grassroots clubs where so many careers begin.
By bringing world-class cloud and AI technology into the heart of the FIA, we can make it simpler for drivers, officials and volunteers to take part, help our Member Clubs work more efficiently, and move closer to our ambition of doubling global motor sport participation.
AWS hardware builds that brief, so that's a traditional CFD process run using OpenFOAM [an open-source software package] and various post-processing tools.
So we might look at using some surrogate approaches trained off our CFD data to shortcut the simulations, to get more productivity out of the whole process for less compute time, less engineering time, less energy consumption and less money.
