Kunming Opens International Complex Science Center

Kunming hosted its first Dianchi International Complex Science Conference on October 16 and 17, alongside the launch of a new research center.

More than 240 guests from China and abroad, including researchers and business representatives, attended.

The conference marked 70 years since physicists Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang proposed the theory of parity non-conservation, for which they shared the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics.

The new center is a joint project of Kunming’s government and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, focused on complex science and using artificial intelligence to support scientific discovery.

It plans to draw on Yunnan’s biodiversity, highland ecology and cross-border systems, and to study ways to apply its research in industry.

The organizers aim to build international research and talent links, especially with South and Southeast Asia, and help turn scientific results into practical uses.
