Rainbow photographed over Glastonbury Tor as Storm Austen approaches

Photographer Michelle Cowbourne captured a rainbow over Glastonbury Tor at dawn on Thursday, October 22.

The Somerset landmark is topped by the tower of St Michael’s Church, which also appears in a second photograph taken from inside the church.

Cowbourne said the rainbow appeared briefly after torrential rain as the sun rose.

Storm Austen is forecast to bring strong winds to Somerset and other parts of southern England and Wales.

Forecasters expect gusts of 50 to 60 mph in parts of the region, with stronger winds in exposed areas.

An amber wind warning covers Devon and Cornwall, where gusts of 60 to 70 mph are expected and some exposed places could see 80 mph.

The Met Office warns of possible travel disruption, building damage and power cuts, as well as danger from large waves and debris on coastal roads.
