Adeslas and Asisa Skip New Military Health Care Contract
A new military health care contract in Spain received no bids by its deadline on Tuesday.
The contract is run through Isfas, a public scheme covering 531,415 military personnel, retirees and family members at the end of 2025.
Insurers SegurCaixa Adeslas and Asisa, which have provided care under the existing arrangement, did not bid for the 2027 contract.
Both said the proposed funding was too low to support the care they provide.
The government offered a 2% increase in the average payment, while inflation was close to 5%.
About 90% of people covered by Isfas choose private care, so the lack of a contract leaves their arrangements uncertain.
Insurers expect improved terms could lead to an agreement, but elections on 29 November may complicate negotiations if the current government is in caretaker status near the end of its term.
SegurCaixa Adeslas and Asisa did not submit offers for the 2027 Isfas health care contract, leaving the tender without bids.
Both insurers said the proposed funding was insufficient to provide the service under the required conditions.
The contract covers military personnel, Civil Guards and their families, though the articles report different figures for the covered population.
The Spanish government must decide whether to issue a new tender with different terms or extend the current service.

What people are saying
The funding planned for 2027 does not reach the necessary balance to take on a new contract
The lack of adequate funding, together with coverage that is more demanding in some respects than that provided by the National Health System itself, makes it impossible to remain in the contract
The conditions set out in the tender are insufficient and do not allow the current quality of care to be maintained
