Arsenal beat Tottenham 2-1 to end WSL winless run
Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1 in the Women's Super League north London derby at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham took the lead through Cathinka Tandberg's 13th-minute header, but Georgia Stanway equalised four minutes later.
Alessia Russo scored the winning penalty early in the second half after a clearance struck substitute Ella Morris's raised arm, a decision Tottenham manager Martin Ho questioned.
The result was Arsenal's first WSL win since the opening day and their second league victory this season.
The win eased pressure on manager Renée Slegers, whose side had gone five league games without a win.
Tottenham also lost Alice Sombath to a serious-looking knee injury, and she was carried off on a stretcher.
Arsenal next face Benfica in the Champions League on Wednesday, before a busy period that includes four home games in November and a trip to Barcelona; they need to build consistency and finish in the top three to secure European football next season.
