KPK says suspected Djarum excise case may date back to 2010
Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission, known as KPK, says suspected excise irregularities involving PT Djarum may date to 2010.
The agency suspects arrangements were made so the company paid less excise duty than required.
The case grew out of a KPK operation at the Customs and Excise Directorate in February 2026, after which several people were named suspects.
KPK has searched customs offices in Kudus and Semarang, PT Djarum’s office in Kudus, and six companies linked to the firm.
It is investigating whether the state lost trillions of rupiah in excise revenue and whether money was paid to customs officials.
KPK says the investigation is at an early stage and more searches and suspects remain possible.
It has not yet called witnesses in this part of the investigation, and says it will establish how far back the alleged practices went.

KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said further searches could follow if investigators identify evidence or a need to search other locations.

KPK suspects the alleged practice of arranging for Djarum to pay less excise than required may have been going on for years, possibly since 2010.
